Purchasing a bike can be intimidating especially because of the sheer choice and range that is available for you to select from. However there are specific tips to selecting your dream bike and ensuring that you have a wonderful time riding it.

The bike frame size is the first important thing that needs to match. According to your body size you need a specific frame size that will match your body size. Stand next to your bike with both your feet placed firmly on the ground. A street bike should give a clearance of 1-2 inches from the top tube of the bike and your crotch. This is important to ensure a comfortable bike. Dont go for anything less or more. When selecting a mountain bike the same clearance should be about 4-5 inches.

A common misconception about bike seat height is that when seated on a bike a cyclist should be able to touch the ground with his feet. In fact when bicycle sizing, adjust the seat in such a way that it allows your feet to straighten as much as possible. Ensure that the seat is flat and does not make you feel sliding either forward or backward while paddling. Allow a small bend at the knee which will ensure that you can generate maximum power and less strain on your legs. Coming back to your feet touching the grounds, if the feet are in fat touching then your seat is too low and you need to readjust the height. Perfect seat position is an integral part of bicycle sizing and it helps you generate the maximum power and ensure a smooth riding experience.

The bike handle position is another important aspect of your bike. When selecting the perfect bike sizing, ensure that the handle is perfect as per the requirements of the bike and also your riding comfort. No single size and or positioning are perfect for everyone. Since body types and adaptability are different, so does the positioning of the handle to adjust and provide the maximum riding comfort and less strain on the wrists, the arms and the back. If you are going to ride on the streets, than your handlebar should be about an inch or two below the seating position. This will allow a lower center of gravity and an equal distribution of your body weight. Similarly when riding your bike on the mountain, you will need an even lower handle bar which will allow a perfect distribution of the weight of your body across the wheels and also accommodate when you get off the saddle to counter rocks and other debris or even to paddle harder. At the end of the day you need the handlebar to provide you less strain when paddling, so the perfect positioning is what you feel is right.

Bike frame size also depends a lot on the bike type. So if you are buying a mountain bike, expect a strong and sturdy construction which can endure the elements and provide a smooth ride. A street bike is more an easy rider, with straighter handle bar and comfortable straight seating position. When buying a bike ensure that you select the one mathcing your requirement and your comfort.
