Bike Sizing

Bike Saddle Guide for Road and Mountain Bikes

Although the bike saddle, or bike seat, is one of the most important parts of any bicycle it is also the most complained about, and misunderstood part. Saddle is actually the correct name for this part of the bike. A seat is something that can hold your entire weight for long periods of time. On the other hand, a saddle is designed to hold part of your weight for a shorter amount of time.

The bike saddle receives so many complaints because most people are riding too far, on the wrong bicycle_bike_saddle_centretype of saddle. This means that when they get off their bike they are sore and tired. Much of this discomfort can be alleviated by equipping your bike with the proper saddle. There are many different types of saddles, the one that suits you the best will be determined by your gender, your size, the type of bike you own, and the type of riding you do most of the time.

The first step in choosing the proper bike saddle is to ensure that your bike is the right size for you. Bike sizing is a critical part of riding comfortably. If your bike is too small or too large it will be uncomfortable to ride no matter what type of saddle you put on the bike. Let us look at some of the different types of saddles that are available.

There are three basic types of saddles – racing, comfort, and cruiser saddles. Within those three types are many different sizes, styles, and types. There are saddles that are made specifically for women, and some made for men. They have bicycle_bike_saddle_countrydifferent coverings, different amounts and types of padding, some are wider and some are more narrow. Racing saddles are not built for much comfort, they are built to be lightweight and give the legs of the race a full range of motion without rubbing their legs rubbing the seat. Comfort saddles are wide with plenty of padding, but are narrow at the front as not to interfere with peddling the bike. Cruiser saddles are a middle-of-the-road choice. They are wider and more padded than a racing saddle, but not as wide or as padded as a comfort saddle.

As you can see, there are many different saddles to choose. When choosing a saddle for yourself, take all of the above mentioned ideas into consideration. One thing to keep in mind, no matter how much thought you put into your bike saddle, trial and error will be a part of the decision. When you purchase a bike saddle make sure the store has a return policy in the event you need to try out a different one.
